Description
This image was shot in the 10,000 Islands Preserve in the Western Everglades during breeding season. It was in a colony of around 300 Wood storks that are resident breeders in the Everglades, lowland wetlands and mangroves. The nests they build in the mangroves differ from the nests they build inland in swamps like the old growth Corkscrew Swamp where they build a large stick nest high in the trees colonially, with up to 25 nests in one tree. These birds are fascinating to watch anytime of the year.

What a beautiful capture of this Wood Stork, Don! They look so much more graceful in the air than on the ground. Beautiful form and color!
